My Weight Control Journey

My Weight Control Journey

I have had a weight problem for the past 26 years. You know how that is especially when you have had children, it's hard to get your weight back. My weight would be like a seesaw. My weight finally reached 211 lbs. this past year. I finally got tired of looking and feeling so big, it wasn't helping my self esteem. I didn't have the money to go out there and join any weight control programs that you often hear about. So I knew I would have to do it on my own.

After hearing about this book called "The Fat Smash Diet", I ordered it and started losing, but then I got tired of some of their recipes, I started watching on TV "Biggest Loser", so I ordered their cookbook,lost some more, then I knew that Weight Watchers had a good program, so I ordered their cookbooks. I had ordered one called "Simply The Best", and shortly afterwards I ordered Weight Watchers "All Time Favorites". It took a lot of mind changing and changing my eatting habits to stick with it. But the recipes have been delicious. I also started exercising more, like walking which is the best exercise you can do and can be a good way to release your stress for the day, I also got one of these steppers which isn't that much, you can get at Walmart. When I go out to eat, I don't order hamburgers or the fries. I try to stick with low calorie or low fat substitutions. Like instead of fries, I order a bake potatoe, no sour cream, if you do, just a small dab. I stay away from sweets from restaurants, you can find that Weight Watchers have some very good recipes for desserts which you don't use sugar, you can use a sugar substitute. I try to drink a lot of water.

Eating in small portions is also a good way to eat, you will find that you do fill up when you eat slowly. I eat a lot of salads, with fat-free or light dressings, and just a small amount. Or you can use olive oil and vinegar. I don't use vegetable oils to cook with, I mainly use Olive Oil or Olive Oil Spray, when it calls for Canola Oil, I use a small amount of that.

It has taken me a while to get acustomed to changing my lifestyle but it really works, you just have to want to change your way of thinking on it. I use to wear a size 18 jeans, now I'm down to a size 12! And I started this long journey July of 2007, and now it is March of 2008. It's been a slow journey, but I'm sticking with it. I'm down to 168 lbs., my goal is to lose another 20-25 lbs. I don't want to be skinny-skinny like some of these models that look anorexic but I would like to get to a size 8 or 10. I haven't seen those sizes since I was in high school.

I hope this can help many others who have the same problem. I know this is going to be a problem with me forever since I love food like most of us, but I don't want to ever see myself get to a size 18 again. I'm feeling much better about my self and regaining my esteem, and feeling so much better and healthier. I have more energy than I have had in years. Good luck to you. If you can afford it, join a weight control program, you won't regret it. I'm just happy to say, that I did it my way, and anyone can do it, if I can, you can!
